on Epson® Semi-Matte premium photo paper printed with archival ink, hand signed by the photographer, from an original Velvia film transparency of a massive 20 foot high shorebreak wave at Waimea Bay, Haleiwa, North Shore Oahu, Hawaii, by long time Hawaii professional photographer Bill Romerhaus. It was a featured photo in a CBS Hawaii '50' newer series. It is initialed or signed by the photographer in the lower corner with metallic ink (

). ***Please note that because it was shot on film will look a little grainier than a digital image when enlarged much larger, but still looks awesome.
Waimea Bay is one the largest surf breaks in the world and these shorebreak waves are some of the most powerful on earth, generated by far distant North Pacific Ocean storms during the winter months (Sept-March). They are an incredible example of the ocean's mightiness. This 20 foot high wave is breaking in water only about four feet deep. It has been said that one wave this size if harnessed for energy could provide enough electrical power to light a thousand homes for over an hour. Native Hawaiians, surfers, and a lot of oriental people consider these magnificent waves to be a supreme example of power and manifested with the spirit of mother nature. To actually see these waves breaking along the shoreline is an awesome and unforgettable experience.

This copyrighted 20 x 30 inch unmounted giclee print was shot by professional surfing, and stock photographer Bill Romerhaus, of North Shore Photography, who has been shooting surfing and scenics since 1967. He is one of a very few photographers in the world who specializes in hand printing original black & white waves and surfing for many years in his darkroom (we also sell smaller prints on e-Bay), and now offers his color images too. This print will fit in a standard 20 x 30 inch frame, although there is a little extra white margin that may need to be custom trimmed to fit your frame.
For the most impressive artistic impact we suggest using a 40 x 60 inch custom matted frame and we also recommend using a UV coating and UV glass for most permanence from environmental exposure. We also include a separate caption sheet with photography information for the back of a frame or display of the photo, and separate instructions with suggestions for making the print last longest. Bill has lived in Hawaii for over 50 years. In 1965 he shot his first surfing photo and was a contributing photographer to Surfer, Surfing, and other magazines for several years. In 1983, he started NORTH SHORE PHOTOGRAPHY, specializing in black & white professional darkroom services, after attaining the status as a master black & white printer and film processor for professional clients island wide. He also worked as a contributing photographer to over 30 international surfing magazines and manufacturers, and as a photojournalist for over 100 publications and agencies worldwide.
His photos have credited him with over 200 cover shots and full page advertisements. His work has appeared in Popular Photography, Shutterbug, American Photographer, Shape, Men's Fitness, Surfing, Surfer, Honolulu, Aloha, Honolulu Star-Bulletin & Advertiser newspapers, Outdoor, Outside, Conde Nast Traveler.  Professional clients include American Express, Vogue International, Hilton Hotels, Hawaiian Tropic, Aloha & Hawaiian Airlines, etc. He was also a contributing photographer for over 40 years to The North Shore News, in Haleiwa.
He now specializes in printing historic and nostalgic images of Hawaii (aka NOSTALGIC PHOTOS HAWAII) from the thousands of photos he has produced and collected as a professional photographer in the past four decades living in Hawaii, and selling his award winning photo history book "Haleiwa: A Pictorial History" available at our e-Bay store.
